EDINBURGH 2022: Rajiv Karia Q&A

BWW catches up with Rajiv Karia to chat about bringing Gallivant to the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Gallivant.

It's a show about dreams you never quite got round to chasing, and the life you made instead. It's about how you thought you'd turn out, and how you did turn out. And there's a massive chunk in the middle about Pret A Manger, but that's true for most Edinburgh shows.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

Doing Edinburgh is like getting a Vegas residency. Different people turning out to see you perform day by day - it's like being Celine Dion. Only difference you just have to share it with thousands of other shows. And I've heard Vegas doesn't have so many hills. Edinburgh's been the place where I've seen countless amazing Edinburgh shows at their peak - I want my show to be one of those. Also, I've got a fully stamped loyalty card for Piemaker. I'm hoping this is the year I can become a gold club member (they let you make the pies).

Who would you like to come and see the show?

I'm looking for nice people who'll come and support me. Or maybe aggressive people who have taken an unlikely shine to me. But probably just those two groups.

Do you think you know what to expect from the Fringe?

Yeah I recently had a very powerful vision that showed me exactly how Edinburgh 2022 is going play out. There's going to be some twists and turns, some laughter, some tears, and by the end one of our favourite players is going to come to a shocking fate! How will we know who? You'll have to tune in to find out.

What else are you looking forward to seeing at the festival?

Jack Harris, Crizards, Jake Farrell, Olga Koch and Shelf are all bringing brilliant shows.
