Fort Wayne Youtheatre Presents Five Young Heroes in BAGHDAD ZOO

Fort Wayne Youtheatre will present the remarkable story of Baghdad Zoo this March. The show follows a long line of inspiring stories from Youtheatre's "Linda L. Ruffolo Young Heroes of Conscience Series," which was created to empower young people to take action in the world around them.

Written by Kevin Dyer, the story of Baghdad Zoo takes place right as coalition forces invade Irag in the hunt for Saddam. Separated from their parents, five children take cover from the bombs under the kitchen table. It's not long before the need to find food and water forces them out from under the table. As the story unfolds, the children find themselves taking refuge in the Baghdad Zoo, and are shocked to find the animals abandoned in their cages. Based on true events, this is a poignant story of remarkable courage and endurance as the children make the animal's survival as important as their own.

"What attracted me to this story was how it focused on empathy and kindness even in difficult situations," says Executive Artistic Director Todd Espeland. "Given what is happening in the world today, this story is incredibly important to tell. Now, more than ever, we need to teach our children to be kind and courageous."

Shows will be held at First Presbyterian Theater from March 3-5, 2023. Performance times are 7pm on March 3, 2pm on March 4 and 2pm on March 5. The sensory friendly performance will be held on March 4th at 4:30pm, with a touch tour beginning at 4pm.

Tickets are $16.00 for adults and $12.00 for children ages 18 & younger and seniors ages 60 & older. To purchase tickets, visit tickets.artstix.org or call the Box Office at 260-422-4226. Box office hours are from 12:00pm to 6:00pm Monday through Friday.
