Alchemy Theatre Troupe Announces Audition Dates and Details for DARK OF THE MOON

Alchemy Theatre Troupe is excited to announce audition dates and details for their upcoming Appalachian folk drama Dark of the Moon.

Dark of the Moon tells the story of a Witch Boy named John who falls in love with a human named Barbara. In an attempt to woo Barbara, John is given a human form which he is allowed to maintain as long as Barbara stays true to him. This folk lore, written by Howard Richardson and William Berney, made its Broadway debut in 1945 and is loosely based on the European folk song The Ballad of Barbara Allen.

Dark of the Moon is a unique blend of folklore, Appalachian culture, and fantasy. The production features multiple musical numbers told through square dances, mountain ballads, and hymns. Robert Hutchens will be directing the show for Alchemy Theatre Troupe.

Audition Dates:

Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at 2:00 PM and Monday, August 19th, 2019 at 7:30 PM

Audition Location:

Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. 5747 E. Pea Ridge Rd, Huntington, WV 25705

Audition Details:

Dark of the Moon requires a cast of 25 individuals ranging in age from 15 and up. There will be roles available for actors, singers, and dancers of all genders as well as a few non-singing and non-speaking roles. All individuals are urged to audition. Those auditioning should be ready to handle a cold reading from the script and prepare a song, preferably a folk song or hymn. Accompaniment is not required.

Rehearsal Details:

Rehearsals will begin on August 20th and continue until opening night. There will be four or five evening rehearsals per week, though not every actor is required to be present at every rehearsal. The first week of rehearsals will take place at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church while later rehearsals will be held at the Barboursville Park Amphitheater.
