Video: Lea Salonga Meets the Press, Sings 'The Human Heart' for Resorts World Manila's 10th-Anniversary Concert, Aug. 30-31

Manila, Philippines--Resorts World Manila (RWM), the Philippines' pioneering integrated resort-township, welcomes back Tony winner, Disney Legend Lea Salonga as they celebrate RWM's 10th anniversary via a two-night concert billed as "Perfect Ten: A Gala Performance" at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre on Friday, August 30, and Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 8 p.m.

Lea was a featured performer at RWM's first Grand Fiesta Manila celebrations in 2009--RWM's opening year. Since then, Lea has made several performances at RWM's Newport Performing Arts Theatre and the Marriot Grand Ballroom at the Marriott Hotel Manila, which is part of RWM's mixed-used resort-township.

Joining Lea in this milestone concert are fellow "Miss Saigon" alums Michael K. Lee ("They're Playing Our Song," "Allegiance") and Tanya Manalang ("Miss Saigon," "Ang Huling El Bimbo"), and young talents Esang de Torres ("Les Miserables," "Matilda The Musical") and Nicole Chien ("Matilda The Musical").

At a press conference, Lea said, "The song lineup has not been locked and loaded yet. We still have the time to figure out what the final lineup is going to be [with Gerard Salonga, the concert's musical director]...But definitely we're doing a lot of music that is familiar with the audience--it's going to be a mix of everything [musical theater, movie theme songs, e.g. 'A Whole New World' from Disney's 'Aladdin' or 'Reflection' from Disney's 'Mulan,' Original Pilipino Music, and others].

"How about adding Disney's 'Aladdin' live-action remake's hit song 'Speechless' to the concert's repertoire?" BroadwayWorld asked. She said, "I don't think there's time to create an areglo (orchestral arrangement) because orchestrations take a little bit of time...But I knew I loved the song the first time I heard it. I think people are familiar with it. It's such an appropriate song in the 'Me Too Movement' era. It might be a fun addition. That's something up for discussion."

Directed by Floy Quintos, "Perfect Ten: A Gala Performance," presented by RWM, in cooperation with Ultimate Shows Inc. and Full House Theater Company Inc., will be accompanied by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga.
