According to Reuters, the Louvre museum in Paris was closed down on Sunday when workers walked out following a staff meeting about the coronavirus outbreak.

The workers refused to return to work after the meeting failed to reassure them that the virus risk was contained.

"Despite talks with management and the staff doctor, the Louvre Museum was unable to open in the absence of sufficient personnel," a spokeswoman for the museum said after the meeting.

Another meeting is set to be held on Monday, but it is unclear when the museum will reopen.

The France government announced a ban on public gatherings that are larger than 5,000 people, until further notice, as the coronavirus spread is contained. However, museums are not covered by that ban.

As of Saturday evening, France had 100 confirmed cases of the illness.
