Akshara Theatre Presents WE ARE CITIZEN INDIA

The first words of our constitution are: "We the people...". Yet, do our humongous behemoths of successive governments, with their systems, agencies, departments, actually fulfill the ideals of the Constitution and the needs of 'we the people', or are they running riot with power, imposing their own agendas and 'Missions', while the people take their battles to the streets? We Are Citizen India is a thoughtful and insightful presentation that explores the issues surrounding the National Register of Citizenship and the Citizen's Amendment Act in the form of a play.

Are people justified in fearing these two entities, or are their fears being cynically exploited? Will these two entities bring succor to stateless Indians or will it be a divisive move? Most importantly, the play seeks to present the factual details of these two entities.

Through powerful and empathetic enactment of the different viewpoints surrounding these two controversial Acts, We Are Citizen India strives to bring clarity and truthfulness in exploring 'the big picture' of the National Register of Citizenship and the Citizen's Amendment Act.

Directed by Jalabala Vaidya and performed by the Akshara Theatre Repertory and Akshara Students.
