Junoon, one of the most sought after theatre and arts organization in India. Based out of Mumbai, every month Junoon organizes a community arts initiative called Mumbai Local. The main idea behind this program is to engage a greater number of audiences towards the craft of stage and also to instill a culture of theatre appreciation amongst the masses in Mumbai and across the country.

Junoon charts out monthly programming that involves various localities in Mumbai and works with artists and theatre actors to bring to audience unique aspects about stage, story telling, performing arts and theatre. Launched back in 2014, the program has seen many successful editions. Bringing to Mumbai masses in the month of August again is a series of interesting programs to attend and explore.

one of August highlight that Broadway World picks up is Mumbai Local with Danish Husain. Husain who is a prolific actor, storyteller, poet and theatre director will be speaking on the topic Theatre Vs Storytelling: An Actor's View. As important as the title suggests the talk would essentially explain the art of story telling vis a vis theatre. While to an audience both may seem the same as all theatre works have a story to tell, Husain intricately would explain how an actor negotiates between these two terrains. And how different in portrayal are the two from each other.

The talk would delve into a retelling of personal discovery for Husain and how he discovered storytelling. It is during these interesting discussions that the audiences would get a peep into the re-discovered art of Dastangoi. talking about story telling Husain says, ""Storytelling is a different art form, very different from a theatrical production," he claims. "In storytelling, the text is more fluid; it pre-dates writing. For storytelling you have to understand text, audience, orality. Actors tend to imitate storytellers, not be them."

The deeply personal and educative talk would immerse one into Husain's childhood where he watched Marsiya, the Dastangoi, the discovery of his youth and how his years in theatre not only taught him to juggle different forms but also formed a deeper connection to hone his craft.

Curate by Ranjit Hoskote, the talk is deeply personal yet intensely useful for everyone who has been intrigued by stage.
