SEAGULL to Play at Kansallisteatteri The brutal comedy, Seagull will premiere at Kansallisteatteri's small stage Sept. 18 and will run through Dec. 28.

Anton T Shekhov's Seagull (1896) - the first of his four great plays - is a masterfully profoundly written work on art, love, youth, old age and the impertinence of life choices. The longing for the log persons is unfulfilled. What do they end up looking for, what do they want from each other? At the Sorin Manor, the self-indulgent idleness of the people spending their time on the shores of the lake anticipates a major change that is already looming on the horizon - still unrealistic but inevitable.

Under the guidance of the acclaimed visual and physical theater expert, Anne Rautiainen , Chekhov's timeless cross-section of the human soul blends in with the beauty of the vivid scenes. Rautiainen has previously directed performances Mestari and Margarita (2017) and Butterflies under the Steps (2013) at the National Theater . In the role of Irina Arkadina, Maria Kuusiluoma celebrates her 25th anniversary with the Seagull performance.

In addition to Kuusiluoma, the cast will also feature Aksa Korttila, Jussi Lehtonen, Esa-Matti Long, Miro Lopperi (TeaK), Pirjo Määttä, Mika Piispa, Emmi Parviainen, Taisto Reimaluoto and Vesa Vierikko.

The creative team includes Jalo Kalima (Translator), Katri Rentto (Set Design), Saija Siekkinen (Costume Design), Jenni Nikolajeff (Choreography), Ville Toikka (Lighting Design), Esa Mattila (Sound Design), Pyry Hyttinen (Video Design) and Laura Sgureva-Cox (Camouflage Design).
