DARK NIGHT CABARET Returns To Tweed This Month

One of Tweed & Company Theatre's most popular evenings of entertainment, THE DARK NIGHT CABARET, is returning this September 28th, and it is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet! This annual performance of all star Canadian talent performing their favourite song and dance numbers is always a sold out favourite, and this season features an impressive total of twelve professional Canadian Musical Theatre performers; some favourite performers from past productions, and some favourites on the Toronto stage but new to Tweed & Co.

"Our goal each season is to constantly improve our offerings, and continue to build this company into something incredible for us and for the entire community", says Artistic Director Tim Porter, who is spending the entirety of the fall in Tweed prepping the company's fall productions and future season, in between lead roles at major theatre festivals across the province. "We really wanted to assemble an extra special Dark Night Cabaret this season, and I believe that is exactly what we have done. The talent on that stage is unmatched, and it is going to be a truly unforgettable evening."

This year, the Dark Night Cabaret will once again be paired with a stunning Harvest Dinner in partnership with Enright Cattle Company, prepared by the chefs from Olivea Restaurant in Kingston. If you waited to book your tickets for the Harvest Dinner, unfortunately you are already too late. Tickets for this incredibly successful event sold out months in advance, but due to the demand, Tweed & Co opted to add a handful of additional tickets for just the Cabaret portion. "We wanted as many people as possible to be able to experience these incredibly talented musicians. So even though we are somewhat limited as to how many people we can host for dinner, we wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to book tickets for the Cabaret portion."

The Dark Night Cabaret has been around almost as long as the company, and over the years audiences have had the chance to see countless young up and coming and established Canadian Musical Theatre performers in an intimate and personal setting. Many of these young artists have since gone on to major productions in Toronto, Stratford, Broadway and beyond, and it's always thrilling watching them sing their party pieces and thinking about the bright future ahead of these talented performers.

This year's cabaret is a mix and match of Tweed & Company favourites, and popular Canadian artists. Rachel Clark, the stunning dancer, singer, musician, and choreographer of HASTINGS! The Musical fame will be on hand to sing, play AND dance, true to her triple threat reputation. Local pianist and music teacher Scott Davey will provide the piano accompaniment for the evening. New to Tweed & Company but no strangers to the stage, Adam Charles and Sam DiGiuseppe will sing a duet or two, possibly something from one of their national tours of We Will Rock You, The Wizard of Oz, or Disney's Newsies. The pair have recently relocated to Kingston where DiGiuseppe will be attending Law School at Queens, and Charles will continue performing on Eastern Ontario Stages. Celebrated Canadian Vocalist Kelly Holiff will be bringing her powerhouse voice to the Cabaret as well. Holiff has performed on stages across the country both as a singer and as a musical theatre performer, dueting with the likes of Colm Wilkinson and Jackie Richardson, and performing at the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Uncovered Concert Series, at Koerner hall, and the list goes on and on. Tweed & Co favourites James King & Mike Lee will also return this year, performing some of the iconic songs of their popular Indie band James King & The Midnight Hours. And local favourite Mark Lesage will of course be performing a number as well, one of his signature pieces that frequently bring the house down. Recent addition to the community Kristen McConnell will perform a stunning classical piece that AD Porter says blew him away when he first heard her. And speaking of Porter, he will be doing a number or two in the show as well, appearing on stage several times this season after being behind the scenes for many years. Another Kingston talent Maryanne Wainman will also be singing a classic tune, and we'll be surprised if there's a dry eye remaining in the house. Last but not least, another celebrated contemporary dancer and triple threat musical theatre performer Christine Watson will be doing a piece specifically created for the evening.

Tickets for the Cabaret Only portion of the evening are $20.00 and on sale now at the Tweed News, and online at tweedandcompany.com. Doors re-open at 7:15, and the show begins at 7:30.
