Grand Theatre Brings MONSIEUR LINH AND HIS CHILD to Luxembourg This May!

MONSIEUR LINH AND HIS CHILD is playing at the Grand Theatre in Luxembourg from May 3 to 7, 2019.

Mister Linh flees His war-ravaged country in search of a better future for His granddaughter. The devotion affords the little girl attracts the ridicule of his roommates in the asylum center. Mister Linh does not feel at home when he meets himself, he meets Mister Bark. Bark talks mainly about his wife who died recently. Mister Linh does not understand him but he listens his little girl on his lap. They meet on the same bench in the park

Mr. Linh and His Child is a moving account of a man forced to escape his country with a little he has left, a man who has to live with his traumatic memories and who can not let go of the past. Guy Cassiers stages his adaptation of the novella by Philippe Claudel has a monologue. The production will be made in several languages ??and a different local actor will perform.

Following the Flemish premiere in September and the French premiere in March 2018, the English-language version - co-commissioned by The Theaters of the City of Luxembourg - now premieres in Luxembourg starring film and theater actor Jules Werner. By having Werner perform all parts of the narrator, Mister Linh and Mister Bark - the director gives the production a special flavor, atmosphere and significance. It becomes a performance about the power of imagination and portrayal. But at the same time it is a play about loneliness, about the longing to communicate with others - and not in the last place, with the audience.

Philippe Claudel (1962) is a French author, scriptwriter and film director. He is best known to the general public for the first film he directed himself, I've Loved You So Long ( Longago I love you, 2008), a moving story of a mother who is accused of murder after putting an end to the suffering of her terminally ill six-year-old her. In recent years Claudel has become one of the most important writers of his generation.

With just one actor and minimal visual means, Guy Cassiers has turned Philippe Claudel's novel into masterful theater. Actor Koen De Sutter finds the perfect tone and manner for this implacable story. From Volkskrant, Hein Janssen on the Dutch Version of Mr. Linh and His Child

The projections often have a poignant beauty because of their sparing use. Narration is the central focus in Mister Linh, and the interventions made by Cassiers - who likes multimedia theater - are remarkably subtle and rare for his way of doing things.De Morgen, Ewoud Ceulemans on the Dutch Version of Mr. Linh and His Child

[EN] Decanted Red, Blood & Roses, The Trilogy of Power, House of the Sleeping Beauties, The Man without Qualities: Director Guy Cassiers is a regular at the Grand Théâtre. He's back with The Little Girl Mr. Linh, based on the novel by Philippe Claudel.

Mr Linh had to leave his country at war to secure a future for his granddaughter. Exiled, isolated, he lives between a past that haunts him and a present that scares him. He meets Mr. Bark with whom he will share a piece of public bench. A strange relationship will bring these two men who talk and understand each other beyond words, a kind of friendship that is not said but lives.

Guy Cassiers, very faithful to Philippe Claudel's novel, builds a world of images that make us share Mr. Linh's vision. Through his eyes, we are surprised like him by what hits him sometimes hard and live with him a great complicity in his discovery of the world around him.

After a creation in Flemish and a first in French with Jerome Kircher, it is now the English version, co-produced by the Theaters of the City of Luxembourg, which will be born with Jules Werner alone on stage performing all the characters: the narrator, Mr. Linh and Mr. Bark.
