Sony/ATV Signs Deal for Scott Weiland's Stone Temple Pilots Song Catalog

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed a worldwide deal to represent the late Scott Weiland's song catalog with Stone Temple Pilots.

Weiland co-founded the influential California alternative rock band and was the co-writer and frontman for their first six albums. This sequence began with their RIAA-certified, eight-times platinum debut Core, which included the Grammy-nominated No. 1 "Plush" and the hits "Sex Type Thing," "Creep" and "Wicked Garden."

The group's second album Purple debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S., was certified six-times platinum and featured the Modern Rock chart-toppers "Vasoline" and "Interstate Love Song."

Weiland also led the group on Tiny Music...Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop, which included the No. 1 songs "Big Bang Baby," "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart" and "Lady Picture Show," No. 4, Shangri-La Dee Da and Stone Temple Pilots, their last album on which he was featured.

Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Jon Platt said: "We are excited to be the home of such a classic and prestigious body of work that we are honored to bring to a wider audience."

Sony/ATV President, Global Chief Marketing Officer Brian Monaco said: "Scott Weiland was one of the most iconic frontmen of his generation and with Stone Temple Pilots created a legacy of timeless songs that Sony/ATV is now privileged to represent. I am thrilled about the licensing opportunities that we can create from this incredible catalog."

Mary Weiland said: "The Weiland family is thrilled to partner with Sony/ATV. We look forward to opportunities that will introduce the Stone Temple Pilots catalog to a new generation."
