Sophocles Classic ANTIGONE to Play at D. Maria II National Theater

Sophocles' classic, Antigone, will play at D. Maria II National Theater Sept. 18 through Oct. 6.
Antigone, starting from a city that is becoming ill, is proposed to create a spectacle that seeks vertigo, as the conflict between Creonte's law is opposed to Antigone's discontent and disregard for human and family rights. Creon imposes his will tyrannically, confirming the immutability of the tragic fate that marks the Labdacids. Antigone dares, almost revolutionarily, to oppose it. Can the human change fate? Should human rights override the rights of the instituted power? What is justice anyway?
It also asks: How to approach a classic and paradigmatic text of the history of the Theater, already so often made and redone? I am first of all interested in treating you today, on the one hand, and on your humanity, on the other. I see here, in this possibility of interrogating the human character, the anchor and core of this show, supported by the work of the actors, who are challenged to portray and update these archetypal characters, exploring their contradictions, doubts and impetus, in a conflict. which throws us into a darkness that may, at last, perhaps illuminate us.
