Maine State Music Theatre

Having recently celebrated its 60th anniversary season, MSMT has become not only the crown jewel in Maine's professional theatre circuit, but also functions as a leading regional theatre on the national scene. A destination for summer visitors from places far away, the Equity company performs four main stage musicals at the Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus, three Theatre for Young Audience shows, three concert stagings, co-productions with other local professional companies like Portland Stage and The Public Theatre, and offers numerous free public outreach activities, in addition to fielding one of the most prestigious artist training programs in the country. Repertoire ranges from classic to modern musicals and new works, all lavishly produced and stunningly staged.

Ogunquit Playhouse

With its venerable eighty-plus-year-history, Ogunquit Playhouse is one of Maine's cultural jewels and a cornerstone of America's theatrical heritage, commonly regarded as one of the last of the great Summer Theatres from the Straw Hat Circuit still producing traditional live musical theatre. Ogunquit Playhouse offers five musicals in a season that runs from May- October, followed by a Christmas show in Portsmouth. The range of its repertoire is versatile; offering Broadway standards, new works, and works in development, and its historic venue in picturesque beach town Ogunquit is worth a visit in itself.

The Good Theater

Good Theater is a professional theater company dedicated to presenting quality theatrical productions that are uplifting, inspiring, and life affirming. The company presents a mixture of comedies, dramas and musicals, and In recent years, has debuted a number of Maine premieres. Good Theater is in residence at the St. Lawrence Arts Center on Munjoy Hill in Portland.

Portland Stage

Portland Stage is a leading Equity company producing, seven main stage plays, plus an annual co-production of a musical with MSMT, in addition to a studio series and a developmental works series. The company devotes a great many of its resources to producing new works, as well as to its intern program and Theater for Kids offerings.

Mad Horse Theatre

The Public Theatre

An Equity company, Lewiston's The Public Theatre is committed to bringing high-quality professional theatre to a Central Maine public at affordable prices. Popular with local theatre-goers, the Public produces an October - May season of mostly contemporary plays with an emphasis on comedies. In 2019 it will offer its first co-production with MSMT of a musical, Grease.

Penobscot Theatre Company

Theater at Monmouth
