The Chocolate Factory Theater Will Present Stephanie Acosta in GOOD DAY GOD DAMN

The Chocolate Factory Theater (chocolatefactorytheater.org) has announced the premiere of Good Day God Damn, a new performance by Stephanie Acosta. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased in advance at (212) 352-3101 or chocolatefactorytheater.org.

In a multi-frame assemblage of video projection, the cinematic lens, and the theatrical frame, the performers of a??Good Day God Damna?? - four dancers, an opera singer, and an ill fated a??screeching director - move as an organic sentient mass through multiple atmospheres and states, exploring ideas of the cinematic thriller and extraterrestrial hope in an attempt to disassemble, rebuild, and hold onto the very notion of survival in an absurd multi-crisis reality, asking: what does it mean to get through it? Dissonant sounds and images give way to choral moments in a darkly thrilling and dynamic disarray.

Created and directed by a??Stephanie Acostaa??. Performers: a??Leslie Cuyjeta??, a??Miriam Gabriela??, a??Angie Pittmana??, and a??Jessie Younga??. Sound and vocals: a??Alexa Graea??. Lighting Design: a??Shana Crawforda??. Projection Mapping: a??Ryan Holsopplea??.

Good Day God Damna?? began its development as part of a Creative Residency at The Chocolate Factory Theater in September 2018, curated by Blaze Ferrer.

She can also be found working on a new publication with longtime collaborator Rory Murphy under the name NO ONE IS ANYWHERE, and touring nationally and internationally with a??This Bridge Called My A**a?? created alongside collaborator Miguel Gutierrez and featuring an all Latinx cast of performance misfits.

The Chocolate Factory Theater exists to encourage and support artists in their process of inquiry. We engage specifically with a community of artists who challenge themselves and, in doing so, challenge us. We believe that by supporting the labor of these artists, we contribute to elevating New York City as a thriving and more equitable wellspring of ideas. The Chocolate Factory embraces artistic practice as an integral part of the artist's whole life, an essential component of the life of our community and a key element of a larger national and international artistic dialogue. As such, we host artists as our equal partners with shared autonomy, trust and appreciation. While we seek to make big ideas and extended relationships possible, we commit to working at a small, intimate and personal scale, with few artistic compromises or boundaries. We achieve all of this by creating a vessel for artistic experimentation through a residency package serving the whole artist - salary, space, responsive and flexible support for the development of new work from inspiration to presentation.
